Hard-Wiring Sat-Nav

MessageAuthor

Hello everyone. For anyone who is interested I've just Hard-Wired my Sat-Nav unit (Nuvi 310) into my 2001 S40 2.0T. It didn't take long and all I had to do was sacrifice my Cigar-Charger for the unit. I've got mine mounted next to the pillar rather than in the middle of the wind-screen. Now whenever I've got it mounted and I turn the ignition it automatically starts charging, marvellous.... I'm sure you could do it for any Sat-Nav Unit, just sacrifice your charger. If anyone is interested I shall reveal all  Thanks Matthew

RE: Hard-Wiring Sat-Nav

Just finished checking it all and it all seems fine so this is how I did it, for anyone who is interested.... 1. Opened up the plug on the end of the charger (bit that plugs in to ciggy lighter) 2. Pulled out the circuit board. 3. Connected up an In-Line fuse holder, as in the charger the fuse sits on the end of a spring within the housing. 4. Connect a piece of wire upto the -ve side, on mine (probably others) the springs that hold the housing into the lighter socket act as the -ve. 5. I then wired mine into the rear of the Headlamp Switch Control on the left of the steering wheel. 6. The positive went to the GREY wire, and the negative to the BLACK wire. 7. Theres plenty of room behind the headlamp control unit so any spare wire is easily hidden. 8. Sit in drivers seat and marvel at handiwork. Apologies if this has been posted on the forum before, or is blatantly obvious to most of you. But I was so chuffed I felt I had to share it.... Any questions, criticisms, or advice? Thanks Mat
