G4 Titanium-Dual boot won\'t allow OS9 installation

MessageAuthor

Hi- I have a G4-400 Titanium that I had running on OS 9.2 only. I decided to make this dual boot and all went well when formatting and installing OS 10.3.3 until I went to install OS 9.2 from the OS X disc. It successfully got through the first part of the installation process that checks to see if your computer can run the system. It then installs some software to which I got a message indicating that it was a successful installation. After that I got an error message saying "this disc is not for this computer". It then gave me the option to load another disc in or quit which eventually I did. During the formatting process I did install the OS 9 driver so that isn't the problem but I am baffled at what is.I tried re-formatting and re-installing again and got the same results. The OS X disc did originally come with a tower computer so could that be the problem? Are there different versions of the system software for powerbooks and towers? Any ideas out there? Thanks Wayne

You can download OS 9.2.x from the Apple web site. HTH

OK.For some reason I thought it had to be installed from the OSX CD and not from a normal 9.2 install CD. I do have one here and I will see how it works. Thanks guys. I appreciate the help and I will get back to t let you know how it went. Wayne

If OS9 has been installed as part of the OSX install (ie. as part of OSX's Classic functionality) you can simply drag the OS9 System Folder and the OS9 Applications folder to the other partition/drive, and then boot from it.

I run this exact setup. It rocks.... Start up from the OS9 CD, and install the OS onto a separate partition. (you should make an OS9 partition when you install OSX, using the OSX disk utility). Couldn't be easier, totally sick to have both OS available, esp. if you're a Logic/TDM user..... Andy

Well I started up and installed from my OS 9.2 CD and it worked. Starts up in both OS 9 & X perfectly. I have both on the same unpartitioned drive and it seems pretty happy so far. Thanks to all for the help. Wayne
