parsing error since R4

MessageAuthor

Hi, Guys. Title says it all really. Since R4 all my projects won't open. I've been able to open bak files but they display some odd behaviour, MIDI signals not getting to Shortcircuit is the most serious for now. I'll need to reconstruct 3 projects with previously recorded audio files if going back to R3 doesn't work but before any of that - anybody else suffering or having dealt with this?

- What is your operating system? - How did you perform the upgrade? Parallel install or regular update? If the latter, are you sure you installed into the same folder as the old version? - What kind of MIDI signals are not getting to SC? Track MIDI or MIDI input? - Can you upload a project that shows this "parsing error" and post the link?

Waddaboutye, Ollie. Cheers for the reply. XP sp3 Regular update. All defaults. Track MIDI. SC seems to be operating properly, triggering it internally has the desired effect. I'm not at the PC at the moment but will post when possible, thanks.

Mmmm. Just gone back to V3 to finish some projects and getting the same message so might be coincidence. Bad bloody timing. I'll explore further when poss, apologies if this is an unnecessary distraction.

Ah thanks for the reminder! I'm sorry, the project file seems to be actually corrupted, it consists mostly of one gigantic config chunk from ShortCircuit which ends unexpectedly with a portion of zeroes and that's also the unexpected end of the project file, which is causing a quite justified parsing error. :( It seems something happened while writing that config chunk to disk, a crash/aprupt power loss, something along these lines.

Cheers, Ollie. I take the precaution of unlatching the hd before removing it (usually). One thing does come to mind, though. Reaper has been taking a long time to autosave, hanging for up to 10 secs at a time with MIDI continuing but audio silent. When I save during a session or before closing Reaper takes much longer to save than previously. What you say might suggest this is connected, no?

Result! Project saved on desktop, audio remains on ext hd, saves smoothly and opens intact, nice one. It would be nice to know why it works but will settle for a working system for now. Thanks a million, Ollie and cheers for the input, Pipe.
