How To Replace Handbrake Cables`

MessageAuthor

Hi guys, I had to sort my rear brakes today which i have now done and everything ok, but i noticed that the passenger side hand brake cable, and broken out of its housing at the rear disc. I know this will fail its mot in march so i am going to repalce them. My question is, how do you remove the centre consol, to get behind the handbrake, to replace the cable. regards stuart

Hi, Sorry to be a right killjoy, but, this is a b****** of a job. It really needs the car well off the ground as there is a lot of work to do including drilling out the old cable fastenings. My son in law, a mechanic, maintains my machine and he took it to the garage to do it and I paid the bill. Not a job to do rolling on the ground in this weather! Paul :-(

RE: How To Replace Handbrake Cables`

I dont think it is very difficult at all. I am a mechanic myself and i already managed to losen teh cable off right up to, where the cable goes through the floor, into the cabin, behind teh hand brake cable. I only need to know, how to take the centre consol out, so i can release the handbrake cable from teh rear of the handbrake. I dont want to start pulling at things incase i break something. Could somebody please guide me thorugh, the removal of the centre consol around the handbrake cable. regards stuart
