Drum Samplers

MessageAuthor

I use 3.11 and use a variety of VSTi for various keyboard sounds. I know Reaper can turn transients to into midi data. All I really need is to find a sound module/sampler to move forward with sample augmentation etc. The usual players seem to be Battery, DFH2, Andy Johns, Slate etc etc.... Which of these are stand alone, which ones are just samples and require a sampler etc .... What else would I need to move down that path?

RE: Drum Samplers

The two I use most frequently are: 1) ToonTrack Superior Drummer v2 2) XLN Audio Addictive Drums I can get just about any sound I need out of these, from hyper-real to electronic. They also have a lot of in program algorithms that give them a more than humanized sound. These seem to be my go to samplers, even after tuning my programmed drums to perfection or recording a good take from a real drummer. And of course no sampler is complete without ToonTrack DrumTracker. THIS piece of software has saved my life so many times. A STAPLE if you record live drums, or need/want to emulate the timing of a song already made.

I am using MDrummer large. It is also a unique rhythm generator, almost like a live drummer. There is MDrummer small for free as well.

If you have specialist needs you can custom build your own by following this Shortcircuit tutorial. It's work but very useful to know how to do

RE: Drum Samplers

+1 for superior2...i upgraded from the older dkfhs vsti, so i have those kits available too. there is software you can d/l to use it as a standalone, which is nice for building kits. i haven't tried the replacement stuff though. similar to battery is LinPlug's RMV...it's pretty cool, and not too pricey. i also like sonic charge's microtonic for electronical-type stuff. it's a gas to play with. addictive drums and bfd are very cool too. all of these plugs are pretty high quality. i doubt you'd be disappointed with any of them, really. kell

The DrumTracker app sounds handy. Is there a free or much lower cost solution that also works well?

I use toontrack superior 2 with reaper all the time. Its solid and sounds amazing. Another vote for drum tracker. Ez drummer I'm sure would do well for a cheaper solution.
