MBox and Windows error messages

MessageAuthor

Wandering if anyone can help me out there, it's late and a holiday weekend lol... I just purchased an MBox and installed it to my HP computer, windows XP home edition, and all went well with the install, at least i think, but when I try to record or play back, shortly after starting...I recieve an error message: "The operating system held off interupts for too long, please try to increase HW buffer size (6086)" To my knowledge, i have disabled my hyper threading, and even started in diagnostics mode, and still have the same problems, the buffer size is maxed and I am just unsure how to go about fixing this problem... any help would be greatly appreciated, I thank you very much Joshua

You'd have to give us a full run down of your system specs.. and let us know if you have Service Pack 1 installed. Can you play back the demo session? Rail

RE: MBox and Windows error messages

thanks for wanting to help with info, I appreciate it... I have a hewled packard desktop, damn near brand new, only a month old, Intel Pentium 4 with hyper threading, 512 MB SDRAM memory, 160 G.B Hard drive, Intel graphics media, 2.80 GHz, 1 MB cache, 800 MHz front side buss. this computer to my best knowledge came with the service pack one...is there a way to find out more, the info on from my computer gives me info on upgrading to 2, so I almost assume that it has 1 already. My errors occur when recording and playing back...I only am allowed several seconds of record time before I recieve an errro about "held off interupts for too long", and then also when attempting to play back, with the same error message...I was told my computer was compatible for this, and I hope that I can get it working. I do not think that I have tryed to play the demo session, i alwasy get promted right into the main program when I enter, maybe I should try that too. I appreciate anything you may have to offer, thank you very much Joshua

You can right click on My Computer then click properties it should say on the first tab whether SP1 is installed. Have you set 'Open Ended Record Allocation' to 10 minutes in Protools Preferences? And have you disabled all unnecessary services and set things up, as called for in the 'Getting Started' guide?

<<And have you disabled all unnecessary services and set things up, as called for in the 'Getting Started' guide>> The two culprets you "typically" have to disable are your network card, and the Sound Blaster card. Right Clip on "My Computer", Click "Manage", select Device Manager and disable these two if present. Dan

RE: MBox and Windows error messages

I've had the same problem as you had encountered and also have a new HP computer with similar set up. Just wondeing if you were able to get it working with these suggestions. I am unsure about disabling my sound card (not sure if it is even a Sound Blaster) because there is not a clear identification in my device manager area, and I am new to most of this. Anyway, thanks for any advice if something has worked for you.
