740 B230E injection. Car cutting out. 

Hi All. My trusty 740 has started to cut out on me. It can happen at any time but usually when the engine is hot. If I let it cool then it will start again. It is a intermittant fault. Any ideas. I'm going out to the garage to strip out the distributer and have a look at it. Any and all sugestions gratefully recieved. Kind regards to all, Tony :-)

Hi, Idle control clean-up. Throttle body clean up. Maybe check the crank vent system to make sure it isn't blocked. If checking the dizzy, check also the points if there, and the rotor. Check also the plugs to make sure thy are in good condition. Des. . . ;)

the fuel pump relay. Worth checking if you don't know how long it's been in the car. To get at it, you will need to remove the ashtray and cover behind it, prise off the cigar lighter surround, remove the two screws holding it, then remove the cigar lighter and the shelf below it to reveal the relay panel. The fuel pump relay is the green one on the left at the back. Then if you want to check it read this thread, and if need be make a temporary repair.

The first candidate is the fuel pump relay as Glen says. It's a common failure and cheap enough to regard as a maintenance replacement item. If that doesn't fix it post back and we'll get far more technical. Regards.
