tubepre vs studio project

MessageAuthor

hi there! i need some advice, regarding two entry level preamps that i can afford at the moment, i am using a fine microphone (AKG c414uls) and i would really like to warm it a bit with a tube....so there is the firest potion which is the tube pre of presouns(i think it is speeld that way....) with a cute VU meter at the front and small tiny box. the second option is the studio project pre amp wich is kind of poor looks that makes you not want to spend a nickel on it but hey....i am really not after the looks of it. so if any of you are using those stuff i would be happy to hear any pros and cons about it i have a session tomorow evening and i would like to get oneof them before. thanks ahead! ariel

They're both fake tube preamps, built to the marketing department's specs. Save up your pennies and wait until you can at least get an FMR RNP. And why would you want to "warm up" a 414/ULS - they sound like veiled mud anyway.

I'll second the notion for the RNP. Forget about solid state vs. tube, or warming anything up. This pre will just make things sound BETTER and that's what you need.
