Recorded audio too early in relation to backing track

MessageAuthor

Hello everyone. I bought my Pro Tools a few months ago and I'm having more problems than joy with them:) I have tried to fix those two problems but just can do it on my own, I'm probably doing something incredibly stupid, maybe someone will spot it. I have a PC with Windows 7 and Pro Tools on MBOX 2 Mini. Monitor cables connected to monitors, 48V button on, mic cable then the headphones cable. My main setup is that I record vocals into a session with an mp3 backing track. When i first installed the system it was working fine and at some point it started to do weird thing. I record in headphones with the backing track in them and the track on which i record to be muted (otherwise i get my voice back with a delay) and with muted track i still get my voice back into the headphones (don't know if that should be the case to be honest) but without latency. the backing track is not armed for recording. I record the new track and then when i listen, the RECORDED track is slightly TOO EARLY in relation to the backing track that i put there beforehand. that happened on many tracks so i know it's not a coincidence. I even reinstalled Pro Tools and it didn't fix the problem for me. another one is - i used to get master fader with the started sessions now i don't. i put them in manually but id' love them to pop in by default. another problem is - i have no idea how the two first knobs are supposed to work and i have a suspicion they don't work like they should? the first one works like a volume knob, gets louder all the way both o my monitors and headphones same way. the second knob though works like a volume knob as well but only half way through and then second half turn doesn't really do anything. Could i ask you to help me with these problems otherwise i might have to go back to using Cool Edit Pro.. gulp...

What exact version of Pro Tools are you running. I recommend 8.0.4 with cs2 and avoid working at 48K(until Avid provides a fix for the known timing issue in 8.0.4, and still in 8.0.4cs2 at 48K)

This is a known issue with 8.0.4. cs2 solves it for all sample rates except 48K. Updates are here:

Exactly what happens when you attempt opening? Did you install anything other than this update? And are you using the latest driver? On another somewhat related note; ALWAYS clone or image your system drive before allowing any modifications to your hardware or software.
