Young punky funsters doing Sum 41 cover - please listen

MessageAuthor

No glaring errors. Sounds good, given the limitations. It'd be good to turn down the crash. Obviously its not that easy. Maybe a compressor on the overheads with a high ratio, relatively short release amd a threshold set to only squash the crash? Might have undesirable side-effects, but worth a try. A bit of reverb on the vox. If you've got some already, maybe a 'larger' one. The bass is a little boomy. If the kick had a bit of click (top end) to it, it might not need to be as loud. The same could be said for bass. Just had a try using trigger kick samples for the intro. Is that cheating? Edit: needs to be angrier to be sum41.

guys I've had a little tweakarama based on your suggestions. If you'd care to have another little listen, I'd be really appreciate it. - I backed off a little perhaps over-zealous brightening of the overheads, hopefully making the cymbals a little less intrusive - i used a triggered kick, as suggested, from Superior Drummer. I still didn't have much luck getting this to cut through the mix though - most of its beef is pretty low down, meaning it kind of disappears on smaller speakers... - played with the overall spectral balance a little - i think it was too bright before, compared to commercial tracks (which always seem to have less high end than I'd expect...) - hopefully given snare a bit more life, although any attempts to give it 'snap' through use of compression just led to far too much interference from the hihat, so I didn't compress the snare. - upped the backing vox a bit Any further suggestions?

I think that Nerdfactormax has it right. There is only so much you can do to modify the sound of drum kit components in this situation. I think that you did make some improvements in your remix, but I think that you might have cut the high frequencies in the overall spectral balance just a little too much. Whatever else might be said, this is really quite a nice recording given that it was done in a classroom with limited time. T
