Should I install Mac OS 9.2?

MessageAuthor

System: G4 466 / OS 9.1 / 384Mb RAM / 2x 30Gb HDD, one reserved for audio / Digi 001. Everything is running nicely, but I don't want to get left behind as long as there are free software updates like 9.1 to 9.2. Are any of you using 9.2 on a similar rig yet? How problematic was the installation and what are the advantages? Thanks for any help with this.

Running 9.2 with Toolbox PT. Have no problems. But as said before 9.2 is optimizing working with OSX.

Thanx guys. I'm not keen to upgrade every time the next patch or fix appears, but equally, I don't want to miss out on any new features that will make life easier. However, my Mac has to do double duty as our office machine (I know, I know...), so I just wondered if 9.2 was worth having. I'll wait till Digi get OS X sorted out then.

Mmm, one up, one down! I'm only cautious because I'm a relative Mac newbie, and I'm not sure I'd know what to do if everything went belly-up with 9.2 Part of me says, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," the other part is itching to try something new! Thanks for the responses. I'll let you know what happens.

RE: Should I install Mac OS 9.2?

One question for you guys: I used to be on a beige G3/233, now I have a brand new G4/733 Quicksilver, 384 Ram, 40Gigs, and added a Maxtor 7200 (30 gigs) The G4 came with MacOS X along with MacOS 9.2 (on the same partition) and everything is in HFS+. I haven't installed PT (5.1.1) yet. Is there something I should know before I install?, Is this combination gonna cause problems?

RE: Should I install Mac OS 9.2?

It's all good. I have a G4 450, which I use OS X on all day to do my day job (programming etc), and then I dual boot to OS 9.21 to do my music when I want to. Work's perfectly all the time. I don't use any plugins beyond the stuff that comes with PT LE, and also don't use any software synths or other programs just PT. But I do lot's of multi-track stuff with MIDI. No probs. Just install 5.1.1 while booted to 9.21. One thing that I would definitely do is to install another HD and put all of your audio stuff on it. Don't install an OS on this one. The other thing is to partition your HD to put OS X on one partition and OS 9.21 on the other one. I also NEVER use classic inside OS X (except for MYOB, a financial package). I just boot to OS 9 to do that stuff. Hope this helps.

Should have read your post before replying :-) Just format your second 7200 hard drive as HFS+ and everything should work just fine. HFS+ is the prefered disk format for OS X as well. Forget the crap I said about partitioning the first drive. I only do that so I can run OS X along with OS 10.1.
