If it were me, I'd look somewhere like, say, webattack.com, tucows.com or download.com Nothing wrong with a time limit but promoting installation of a secretly time-bombed version then making a quiet announcement that everything turns off in 2 days isn't going to motivate them to register. Had the author been upfront, I would have been more inclined. Now I just feel extorted.
I guess I'll stick to 1.1.4 then because I can't even download 1.1.6. Everywhere on Tucows still has 1.1.5, or does anyone know which one has the new one?
I completely agree with FredThompson. I think it's ok to demand money for a good program (which VCDEasy definitely is), but the way the author introduced the new version, I don't feel like supporting him by buying the new version. His actions look really underhanded. Luckily version 1.1.4 is still available for download on tucows, so I got that one (which has no time-bomb implemented) and backdated.
